Having beautiful, clear skin is every person’s desire. But not all are fortunate enough to get it. Some people have to put up with oily skin. Oily skin is shiny, dull and rough skin. It is prone to acne and associated problems like blackheads, big pores, redness, and likelihood of scarring. Hence proper treatment and management of oily skin is necessary.
As skin is the largest organ of the body, it mirrors the condition of our physical and emotional health. When you suffer from any problem either physical or emotional, it has an adverse effect on the skin. Though the causes of oily skin are yet to be determined, heredity and lifestyle are assumed to result in oily skin. Hormonal imbalances during teenage and menopause can also cause the problem. When there is a change in the working of hormones as it happens during pregnancy and taking birth control pills, the oiliness of the skin changes. Diet, humidity, and cosmetics can also cause oily skin.
The sebaceous glands secrete skin oil. This oil moisturizes the skin and delays skin problems associated with old age. But when produced in excess, it blocks the pores of the skin, causing blackheads, pimples, enlarged pores and redness. Area around the nose has bigger pores and most active sebaceous glands. You will also find highly active sebaceous glands on the chest, back, and upper arms. You cannot control the amount of oil produced by the oil glands. All you can do with an oily skin care routine is to manage effectively the excess oil produced and the resultant problems.
