You cannot cure dry skin permanently. But there are some remedies that can make your skin soft and smooth. Lotions, creams, mild soaps and cleansing body wash available commercially offer temporary solution. But this is not cost-effective if you are genetically predisposed to dry skin or suffer from dry skin throughout the year. In these cases, you can soften your dry skin with certain home remedies.
Make a face pack of fruits like papaya, peach and banana. These fruits contain plenty of vitamins and water, which have a therapeutic effect on the dry skin. Applying a mashed avocado, will add shine to your skin. After washing off the face pack, you can apply an oil-based mild lotion or moisturizer to retain water absorbed from the pack.
Use night creams containing alpha hydroxy acids to give freshness to your skin. These creams are far effective than the normal creams and give excellent effect if used at night.
Diet plays a vital role in treating dry skin. Eat a diet rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin B, and Vitamin E. Ensure your diet is rich in leafy vegetables, which provide adequate water to the skin. Drink plenty of water to replenish the moisture lost due to urination, perspiration and breathing. Certain fruit juices are also very helpful.
You can also use rose water, almond oil, olive oil, and beaten curd in making face packs. Daily massage or facial sauna using herbal oils along with mild detergent and soap without perfumes will improve the health of dry skin.
